Time to Evolve

A decade ago, we created an application that allowed people all over the world to communicate with each other on their mobile phones using the Internet. We were among the pioneers of Peer-to-Peer (P2P) mobile Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and one of the first to offer global interconnection to any phone number in the world at competitive prices. Since then, the world has changed dramatically and we have seen the downfall of Symbian and Blackberry and the rise of Android and iPhone, the explosion of social networks and voice becoming just another app, as we had predicted. The telecommunications world has evolved, and so has fring. What started as a direct-to-consumer service has now grown to become a strategic enabler for service provider over-the-top (OTT) consumer offerings.

Because of this transformation, our direct-to-consumer service—the fring app that you have been using—will no longer be a direct offering to consumers. This has definitely been a difficult decision to make.

We sincerely thank you for your support over the past several years. There is good news; fring is not going away altogether. Read below for more information on the new fring offering.

Why is the fring service being discontinued?

Today, multiple consumer voice apps are readily available, therefore we are shifting our focus to work with carriers to enable them with their own branded OTT applications for their customers and moving away from providing service directly to the end-users.

What is currently happening with fring?

As of January 22, 2017, we have stopped accepting new registrations and credit recharges on the fring systems. You will be able to  make and receive calls as usual to other fring users or to phone numbers all over the world using the fringOut service if you have existing credit(s) in your account until February 20, 2017.

After February 20th, you will no longer have log-in access to the fring application and you will not be able to communicate with other fring users or phone numbers.

If you have any credit(s) on your fring application, you will need to use them by or before February 20th.

What does the future hold for fring?

fring has evolved to become Kandy Consumer Solutions, a turnkey, white-label, OTT messaging, voice and video application for Communications Service Providers (CSPs).

Over the next few months we will be launching a new Kandy-based fring application and service focused on being a testbed for new features, new user experience elements and performance evaluations. Be sure to check our website and social media networks for news about the new solution.

What is going to happen with my account?

Your account will continue to work until February 20, 2017. If you have fring credit(s) you will be able to call and send messages to other fring users and make calls to phone numbers (only if you have available fring credit(s)).

After February 20, your fring account will be deactivated. You will no longer be able to connect to the fring app and you will not be able to access your user profile or communicate with it.

What is going to happen with my fring credit?

Starting January 22, 2017, you will no longer be able to recharge credit and any credit remaining in your fring account must be used before February 20. You will not be able to use any credit(s) after that date.

Which platforms will be supported by the new Kandy fring?

iOS and Android will initially be supported, followed by a web-based (WebRTC) application that will be launched from the new Kandy fring website.

What is Kandy?

Kandy is a cloud-based Communications Platform-as-a-Service (cPaaS) that allows Communications Service Providers (CSPs), Enterprises and System Integrators to easily embed real time communications and services such as voice, video and text into their networks and mobile applications.
